Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has today, Sunday October 4, 2026, officially unveiled his new political party.
The party is called The Equitable Party, abbreviated as TEP. During the launch ceremony in Nairobi, Sifuna was declared the party leader and its presidential flag bearer for the 2027 General Election.
The announcement was made by Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, who said the Linda Mwananchi Movement will be led by Sifuna as its presidential candidate. The Equitable Party is now the official political vehicle for the movement.
This unveiling comes after weeks of uncertainty. Sifuna’s team had initially tried to take over the United Democratic Party (UDP) and rebrand it to Ukombozi People’s Party, but the Registrar of Political Parties rejected that name because a similar name had already been reserved. The team has now settled on The Equitable Party.
The launch was attended by several prominent leaders including Governors James Orengo and George Natembeya, Senators Godfrey Osotsi, Richard Onyonka and Boni Khalwale, MPs Babu Owino, Caroli Omondi, and former Tharaka Nithi Governor Kawira Mwangaza among others.
