Utumishi Girls Academy is an instutution located 3.4 kilometres from the Nakuru- Naivasha highway. The institution on a quiet land surrounded by hills away from the major towns. The school was officially opened on July 15th 2021 by former Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua.

It is alleged that the fire was started by a group of Form Three Girls who set a mattress on fire at Meline Waithera Dormitory. Eight students said to have been involved in the arson attack that killed 16 pupils have been arrested.
