The identity of who hacked President William Ruto’s official website on July 18, 2026 still hasn’t been disclosed. The attackers defaced http://president.go.ke with a ransom note demanding 5 Bitcoins, worth about KSh 41 million, to be paid by 6:00 PM that day. Their message claimed it was the “third time” they had contacted the administration and threatened to leak sensitive government information if the payment wasn’t made.

State House confirmed the breach and referred the matter to the government’s ICT team, but officials haven’t named any group or individuals behind the attack. They also haven’t confirmed whether any government data was actually accessed. The website was restored later that day and is now back online with normal content.

While a November 2025 attack on several Kenyan government sites was attributed to a group called PCP@Kenya, there’s no evidence linking that group to this July 2026 hack. As of now, authorities haven’t released details on suspects or arrests.
