Traders have counted loses after a Gikomba Market Fire today that ripped through the historical trading centre in Nairobi. The fire is said to have stated early hours of Sunday 21st, June 2026 leading several business premises into ashes.
From the Kenya Red Cross report, the Gikomba Market fire started at around 4.00am. The Kenya traders from the Kenya’s largest open air market have caalled on the authorities to work up to speed and disclose what caused Gikomba market fire today.
A major fire has been reported at Gikomba Market, affecting several business premises. The fire is believed to have started at around 4:00 a.m. and has caused significant damage, with response efforts ongoing,
the humanitarian agency said in a statement posted on X.
